Buying Flowers Online

July 3, 2002 -- updated January 22, 2004

Do any of you order flowers online? Do you ever wonder about the quality of flowers being delivered? I didn't until  I ordered some for my wife's birthday. When the flowers came, they were beautiful, except for one thing... they were propped up with wires which were stuck into the bulbs! Can you believe that?

When I get her flowers, my wife usually cares for them for two weeks or longer. But these flowers were dead within days. I've had this happen with two different online flower services.  But, since all they do is forward your order to the flower shop closest to the recipient, results can be inconsistent.

My recommendation is to only use online services that let you fill out "Special instructions", and then enter "No wires please".  Another option is to order a potted plant, or use YellowPages.com to track down a flower shop local to your friend or relative, and then order over the phone!
