A website that can convert 1% to 3% of its visitors into customers is probably doing really well. What about those other 97% - 99%? Those visitors were looking for something else, but probably something similar. If you think about it, even you are probably part of the 99% more often than the 1%.Suppose you were looking for patio furniture and you find our website Outdoor Patio Furniture. There is a 97% chance we don't have what you want, given our conversion rate of less than 3%. However, since you do want patio furniture, I recommend looking at our links directory.Why do we link to other patio furniture websites? In part, it's because search engines are rewarding websites for linking to other similar websites. This is creating an incentive for us website owners to find other relevant websites to link to. For example, I get more points for linking to another furniture website than I do for linking to a dollhouse website. Also, it's a useful service to our visitors. But, aren't we linking to our competition? Not exactly.We've carefully chosen the websites we link to, so that they carry similar or related items, but not exactly the same items. They in return, link to me. This way, we each get more traffic. Both websites make more sales, and our visitors have an easier finding what they want. It is this usefulness to all involved that makes such exchanges an excellent way of rating a website's relevance.The next question is, how do you find the website's links directory? Notice that our link is located at the bottom of the page. Many other websites do the same, though some post a link to their links page more prominently.So, start looking for links pages when you're shopping online.
