Overstock.com
November 8, 2002
About a month ago, I wanted to buy a special friend a really nice gift
but I didn't have a lot of money to spend. My husband Mike told me about a
website he accidentally came across called
Overstock.com. He told me they have name brand name items from 50- 80%
off. Of course I was leery of a website that gave that much of a discount.
I figured that either the stuff was "hot", or was of poor quality. I
decided to take a chance anyway. I logged on and all of a sudden, I was a
little kid in a candy store! They had everything from electronics to
bedding to jewelry! I was still concerned about the quality even though
the picture looked ok. I found a gorgeous 14kt gold, pearl and diamond
brooch for $54.00! I took a chance and ordered it. I was pleasantly
surprised when I received it. The brooch was lovely! The brooch sold for
about $150.00 retail. Well, now I'm hooked!
It turns out that this website is a place where companies unload their
overstocked items (hence the name
Overstock.com) Name-brand companies are forced to sell their excess
inventory for several reasons:
-- Products must be removed from shelves to make room for newer models
-- Overproduced products must be sold
-- A change in financial circumstances or strategy may result in canceled orders
-- Manufacturers may be downsizing or moving facilities
-- Companies may need to reduce inventories for accounting reasons
Overstock.com buys this excess at greatly reduced prices and passes the
savings on to the customer. Not only are the prices great and the quality good,
but some of the items are rated by customers. I thought that was great! Shipping
was pretty reasonable too, except for oversized items. They ran about $50.00.
So, if you plan on doing your Christmas shopping on the web, be sure to check
out
Overstock.com first. You will definitely find something for that special
someone, child or adult.
